Get to know Ellie Webb, Founder, Caleño Drinks...

  1. Who are you? Where are you from? And what do you do?

My name is Ellie Webb! I was born in Kent, with a Colombian passport, and I’m the founder of Caleño, a tropical non-alcoholic spirits brand.

  1. What was your first job?

I worked in the drink industry before starting Caleño and I really loved it. It is a very social and fun place to work. I knew I didn’t want to move out of that but I also knew I wanted to find my own space within the industry.

  1. What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Personally, Caleño’s mission is the most exciting part of this job. Bringing joy to not drinking, and changing the way people think about what it means to not drink is what keeps me motivated.

  1. Who has been your biggest influence to get you to where you are today?

For me, it’s been my family. When I told them I wanted to start Caleño they 100% supported me, and got really involved to help me get this idea off the ground. I’m forever grateful for their encouragement, love and support.

  1. What is your favourite food and drink pairing?

Right now it’s Dark & Spicy and Ginger Ale + Lime paired with an authentic Indian curry (made from scratch).. I have a whole drawer of spices!

  1. What are the most important considerations when crafting your drink?

The number one consideration is will people like it and will they buy it? I spent so many months visiting around 200 bars before I launched Caleño. Once you know you’re in the right place with the concept it’s really about liquid excellence, and how you can make taste, your number one priority.

  1. What is your favourite bar?

Revolution de Cuba! Incredible cocktails, delicious food and a brilliant atmosphere.

  1. What is your motto in life?

Chance is when opportunity meets preparation.

  1. Which celebrity would you most like to work with and why?

Shakira… because her hips don’t lie! But in all seriousness, as well as a talented singer and dancer, she’s a hugely inspirational fellow Colombiana, who is an incredible humanitarian and philanthropist.

  1. When are you happiest?

I’m happiest when I’m being challenged and I’m learning. The most recent happy moment has been going to dinner with my team to celebrate some big wins!

  1. If you were stranded on a dessert island and could have an infinite supply of three drinks; one is water, one is your own brand, what would your third be?

Coconut water – I’m a sucker for tropical drinks!
