Get to know Rose Bax, Co-founder, Bax Botanics Ltd... Who are you? Where are you from? And what do you do? My name is Rose Bax, I’m from Yorkshire and I’m Co-Founder of Bax Botanicals, distillers of top quality alcohol-free spirits. What was your first job? Before Bax Botanics I used to teach and inspire people with wild plant flavours, so maybe roots, flowers, leaves, all sorts of amazing wild edibles for flavouring dishes and preserves. What is the most rewarding part of your job? I think knowing that what we are producing is having a positive effect on peoples’ lives. They're loving it and it’s loving them back. Who has been your biggest influence to get you to where you are today? It’s got to be Chris Bax, if it wasn’t for his love of food and the culinary discoveries we have made together I might have been a woodland manager! What is your favourite food and drink pairing? Just now it’s a Bax Botanics Sea Buckthorn cocktail ‘Pico de Gallo’ which also contains mango, jalapeno and muddled citrus. it was served at the Mowbray in Sheffield with an amazing fire cooked Middle Eastern meal. What are the most important considerations when crafting your drink? Taste! Great taste is top. It has to be, that’s why people buy the drinks, second is considering the sustainability of every part of the business from materials to manufacturing and logistics. What is your favourite bar? Ooooh, we have just found a lovely one in Leeds, Tabula Rasa. Brilliant cocktails, friendly staff and a great atmosphere. What is your motto in life? This is tricky, I would say ‘do unto others as you have them do unto you’ I don't follow a religion but this seems like a good one just now. Which celebrity would you most like to work with and why? I think I’d like to go fishing with Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse. When are you happiest? When the weather is calm I love a wide open beach or in a woodland full of beautiful trees. If you were stranded on a dessert island and could have an infinite supply of three drinks; one is water, one is your own brand, what would your third be? If there was cinchona on the island I’d have a go at making tonic to go with my Bax Botanics, but really I’d have infinite cups of tea!
